What is Team Science?

A culture of inclusion, respect, friendliness and an atmosphere of civility is at the core. Team science is a collaborative research approach that brings together the expertise, perspectives, and skills of a diverse group of scientists. By working across disciplines, institutions, and geographic boundaries, teams can tackle complex scientific challenges more effectively than individual researchers.

By leveraging these benefits, it significantly advances the scope and quality of research, enabling breakthroughs that might not be possible through solitary efforts. What are Team Science Best Practices?

At the core of our research success is our commitment to team science. We follow best practices designed to create a productive, inclusive environment where all team members can thrive. 

Inclusive Approach

We believe that inclusiveness leads to innovation. On our teams, everyone is heard and thoughts and ideas are valued, regardless of backgrounds and disciplines. The four cornerstones of our inclusive approach are:

  • Belonging: Individuals feel valued and accepted, and part of the community. Everyone is treated with courteousness and civility. 
  • Equity and Fairness: Everyone has access to the same opportunities, resources, and support. Barriers are removed to allow full participation and engagement. 
  • Respect and dignity: Everyone is treated with respect and dignity. We recognize the unique value each person brings to the team
  • Continuous learning and growth: Ongoing education and self-reflection increases awareness of implicit biases and improves inclusiveness

Open Communication

We encourage open, respectful dialogue and active listening to ensure that everyone feels safe to express their ideas. Regular meetings, weekly news, and accessible communication channels keep our teams connected.

To ensure all team members have the same foundational knowledge, every talk and presentations begins with an introductions to the research concepts. Pedagogical videos designed to help everyone master the basics fosters an incusive environement where all voices can contribute equallly. 

Onboarding of New Team Members

Welcoming new members is crucial for maintaining a cohesive team. Our comprehensive onboarding process integrates new members smoothly, introducing them to our team culture, expectations, and resources. This ensures they are engaged and can contribute effectively from the start.

Clear Goals and Strategic Alignment

Regular theme meetings are integral to our approach, keeping everyone connected and engaged. These meetings focus on specific topics, allowing for in-depth discussions, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving. They help maintain a sense of community and ensure that all members stay informed and aligned. Presentations start with an introduction to ensure that ensures our multidisciplinary team members are have a shared understanding.
