2020 Virtual Annual Meeting and Symposium
Each summer the CBB hosts an annual meeting and symposium that brings together team members from all over the U.S. for three days of scientific talks and activities. While we were not able to convene in person, we hosted a jam-packed event on July 21 – 23.
The annual meeting opened with guest speaker Dr. Corrie Moreau of Cornell speaking on “Diversity in Science – An Everyone Issue”.
Dr. Corrie Moreau - Martha N. and John C. Moser Professor of Arthropod Biosystematics and Biodiversity, Cornell
As part of our professional development series Carmel Lee, Cornell’s Director of Research Development hosted “Writing to Win”, a grant writing workshop.
The week ended with a public symposium on Future Particle CollidersThere were a number of talks by experts from national labs on “An Overview of Colliders,” “RHIC and its EIC future”, “Machine Learning and Colliders,” “Cooling in Colliders,” “SRF and Colliders.” CBB students and postdocs presented their research in a video research blitz and a virtual poster session. The day ended with a panel discussion with five current or former members of national labs, with a focus on working in a national lab – how to get a foot in the door to what it’s like working in a national lab.
